Columbia Holocaust Education Commission

A program of the Columbia Jewish Federation, CHEC promotes awareness of the Holocaust and fosters education in grades K-12 throughout the state of South Carolina. The Commission aims to inspire all South Carolinians to remember the Holocaust and the lessons that it has taught. Only through constant, vigilant, and accurate education will the children of South Carolina be able to fully comprehend the enormity of the lives lost and the aftermath of this dark period in world history.

Visit the The Columbia Holocaust Education Commission website.

The Commission sponsors Holocaust Remembered, an exhibit telling the stories of South Carolina’s Holocaust survivors and liberators. Often displayed at the Katie and Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center in Columbia (JCC), in 2014 it traveled to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, the South Carolina Statehouse and Beth Shalom Synagogue, and has been viewed by several hundred students and adults from across the Midlands.

The Commission also makes grants to community organizations and schools for Holocaust education programs, materials and activities, and reviews grants on an ongoing basis.
